SOLUTIONS
CHARACTER CHANGING & MAINTENANCE
IN THE SCHOOL OF EXPERIENCE
EXPERIENCED AND WRITTEN BY MARK STEPHEN DEROSA
Solutions is a book about change and positive thinking. I have written it in a reference style from the mindset of a person who has experienced each of the chosen topics, as opposed to a clinical or 'professional' view. There is ALWAYS a solution and a more affirmative way to look at the situations in our lives. Sometimes it is a simple matter of learning or choosing to recognize negatives in order to replace them with a healthier positive. This book was written as a tool to remember as well as emphasize the solution based on my practice in searching for them.

SERVICE

What exactly do I mean by service? Am I talking about somebody waiting on me? Is it room service that I am referring to? Am I possibly bringing up the way that a human should behave to the service industry? What about the old adage that the customer is always right?

Not even close. Service is giving it away.

Service is a solution that very few actually ever think about. The problem for many when service is mentioned is there just isn’t enough time or energy. We all lead busy lives and there is always something to do or somewhere we need to be. Busy, busy, busy.

There is a meaningful and simple way to motivate yourself and become a better person in the process. Taking the time out of busy schedules and crowded calendars to give a little of who you are or what you have away is a means of learning more about what’s inside and what really counts in the world. This is a lesson in selfless activity versus selfish natures.

We are all self-centered by rule. Some are more than others. The fact remains the one most positive way to learn how to identify, deal with, combat, and even eliminate the selfish streak that is a relative of negativity is to find a piece of the world that might be contrary to all you are and discover a way to make it part of your life.

There are all sorts of different methods of service that will help your soul and aid in the building of a more positive and different character. Spiritually speaking, taking a contrary action in order to build a better foundation for esteem will result in the strengthening of your soul. The stronger the soul the more positive the outlook on the world around you and before you know it you are an entirely different person.

This is not a judgment call. I am not insinuating that those who are not in some sort of service are soul-less or in any way less than decent in character. I use this example for building character based on my own experience of learning how to change methods of thinking and fill my time with more positive methods of growth.

That isn’t to say that I am out pounding the pavement working my way from charity to charity in order to cleanse my soul and win all sorts of awards for my giving spirit. Perhaps if I were to find myself with large sums of money and a great deal more time in this life I would be able to be of more service in that way, but it simply isn’t the story of my life thus far.

Instead there are other ways to be of service in this world. My experience in service has been most rewarding in the learning of patience and the time spent with friends and people that have been placed into my life. When somebody is in need of a shoulder or an ear I have become the sort of person they are able to confide in. This is a form of service a great many of us would not consider in the world of getting out there and getting ahead.Being of service is a concept that takes an awareness of the world around you. By keeping your ears and eyes open you will learn to tune into people, places, and things in need of some kind of help. Every time you are giving away part of you that is being of service. Each time you are of service you are letting go of more of the selfishness inhabiting us by default in a material world.

Anyone can always write a check and call it being of service, and the truth is donations to charities and funds are vital and always well appreciated. But the greatest solution that can and should be used for character building is the sort of service requiring a human doing, it is far more advantageous to the spirit and soul than a simply a human being.
